Determining The IP Address

There are Three Different Methods to Determine the Wireless Gateway's IP Address.

In Most Installations the Wireless Gateway will use DHCP to obtain its IP Address from a Server on the Local Network, often a Cable/DSL Router.  This IP Address must be used to access the Wireless Gateway’s Internal Web-based Interface if the NetBIOS (MAC Address) method fails.  There are Several Methods available to determine this IP Address, but depending on how your Network is configured, they may not all work on your System.

The Wireless Gateway requests an IP Address from the DHCP Server every time it is Turned On or Reset.  It may not receive the same IP Address every time.  If you are unable to access the Wireless Gateway using an IP Address you looked up earlier you may need to repeat this process to get its Current Address.

If the IP Address of the Wireless Gateway changes soon after the NetBIOS Name (MAC Address) has been used in a Browser the NetBIOS Name may Fail.  When Windows firsts sees the NetBIOS Name in a Browser request it queries the Network for the Device with that name.  The Address is stored and used for subsequent accesses.  After the Wireless Gateway IP Address changes Windows will continue to use the Original IP Address for a period of time.

Method 1.  Routers DHCP Client Table - Most Routers have a built-in Web Interface that includes a DHCP Client Table listing the currently assigned IP Addresses of all Devices on the Local Network.  Consult your Routers Documentation on how to access this table.  The Wireless Gateway will appear in the Routers Client List with the name “Balboa Gateway.” You can also identify the Wireless Gateway in the list using the MAC Address printed on the Label on the Back of the Wireless Gateway.

Method 2.  GWLocate - The GWLocate Utility Broadcasts a Command over the Local Network.  The Wireless Gateway responds to this command with its Network Configuration Information.  The GWLocate Utility can be Downloaded Here.  There's Additional Information on Using the GWLocate Utility.

Method 3.  GWDetect - When the Button on the Wireless Gateway is tapped the Wireless Gateway Broadcasts its Network Configuration Information over the Local Network.  The GWDetect Utility Receives this Broadcast and Displays it.  The GWDetect Utility can be Downloaded Here.  There's Additional Information on Using the GWDetect Utility.
