Using the GWLocate Utility |
|
The GWLocate Utility broadcasts a query over the Local Network. The Wireless Gateway responds to this query with its Network Configuration Information, which the Program displays. The GWLocate Utility can be Downloaded Here. To use GWLocate: 1. If you have not already done so, download the Utility from the Link above, and Unzip it to a convenient location on your Computer Hard Drive. GWLocate is a standalone Program and does not require installation. 2. Double-click the GWLocate Icon in Windows Explorer to Start the Program. 3. Click the Locate Button.
If a Software Firewall is running on the Computer, it may display an alert when the Locate Button is clicked warning that “GWLocate” or “Wireless Gateway Locator” is attempting to Access the Network. This access must be allowed to obtain the Configuration Information from the Wireless Gateway. If the Program is successful the Network Configuration of the Wireless Gateway will be displayed in the GWLocate Window.
If the Window remains blank GWLocate has been unable to communicate with the Gateway for one of several reasons: 1. The Wireless Gateway is Not Plugged In or is Not Connected to the Network. 2. There is a Router in the Network between the Wireless Gateway and the Computer. Both the Wireless Gateway and Computer must be on the same (LAN) side of a Router in order to communicate because the special Multicast IP Address GWLocate uses to send its query will not pass through a Router. It will also not be possible to access the Wireless Gateway’s Web-based Interface in this configuration. 3. The Router either Cannot or is Configured to Not Pass Multicast IP Messages at all. If the problem is determined to be either 1. or 2., Correct the Setup and try again. If you are unable to determine the cause of the problem, leave GWLocate running and Tap the Train/Reset button on the Wireless Gateway. GWLocate should receive the message the Wireless Gateway sends and display the Network Configuration Information. If this also fails try Using the GWDetect Utility.
